OMDB AD 2.1 Overview

1.1 General Overview

Dubai International Airport is the main hub of Emirates Airlines and FlyDubai and is located in the heart of the city of Dubai. Dubai International Airport is home to many Airbus A380, Boeing 737 and Boeing 777 aircrafts.

1.2 Airspace

The Dubai CTR is classified as class D airspace and reaches from ground level up to 1500ft AMSL.

The Dubai Control Area is mostly classified as class C airspace. Around Al Maktoum International (OMDW) this airspace is classified as class D airspace on lower altitudes.

OMDB AD 2.2 Runway System

Dubai International Airport has 2 parallel runways, namely 30L and 30R.
Departures are usually from the right hand runway.
Arrivals are usually on the left hand runway.

OMDB AD 2.4 Flight Procedures

4.1 Departure

Note: Be aware that RNAV 1 performance is required for all IFR flights.

4.1.1 On ground

4.1.1.1 ATC Clearance

When requesting Clearance the following information must be provided to Air Traffic Control:

  • Aircraft Callsign
  • Aircraft Type
  • Parking Stand
  • Initial Requested Flight Level
  • Destination
  • Expected SID and departure speed if unable to meet SID restrictions
  • If below FL150 and routed via M318 airway: Crosing level for GABKO

Note 1: Aircraft are normally expected to start-up during push-back. Aircraft wishing to start engines before or after push-back shall notify ATC.

Note 2: Aircraft requiring a start on stand, may only start 50% of their total engines on stand.

4.1.1.2 Pushback

Dubai International Airport has several push types.

Standard Push: Push abeam adjacent stand or up to one stand distance.
ATC phraseology: Pushback approved, face (direction).

Short Push: Push and pull abeam the departure stand.
ATC phraseology: Short pushback approved, face (direction).

Long Push: Push up to two stand distance.
ATC phraseology: Long pushback approved, face (direction).

Push/Pull: Push and pull abeam the stand in front.
ATC phraseology: Pushback and pull forward approved, face (direction).

Note 1: See AD 2.5 for restrictions for special aircraft.

4.1.2 Airborne

4.1.2.1 Initial contact with Dubai Departures

On intial contact with Dubai Departures, departing IFR aircraft shall pass the following information:

  • Aircraft Callsign
  • Passing Level

Note 1: ATC has zero tolerance with regards to compliance with speed control instructions. Pilots shall adhere to the speed approved by procedure or as assigned by ATC and shall request ATC approval before making any changes. Pilots unable to maintain the last assigned speed shall inform ATC as soon as possible.

4.2 Arrival

4.2.1 Speed restrictions

Dubai International Airport has a few standard speed restrictions in place.

  • 210-250 KT: From CTA entry to downwind.
  • 180-230 KT: From downwind to base leg.
  • 160-210 KT: On base leg and closing heading to final approach.
  • 160-190 KT: 10NM from touchdown.
  • 160KT: 4NM from touchdown.

Note 1: Pilots unable to maintain the standard speed restriction or last assigned speed during any phase of flight shall inform ATC as soon as possible.

4.2.2 Initial Contact

4.2.2.1 Dubai Arrivals

On intial contact with Dubai Arrivals, arriving IFR aircraft shall pas the following information to the controller:

  • Aircraft Callsign
  • Passing Level
  • Aircraft Type

Note 1: If full runway length is required for landing, this shall be advised to Dubai Arrivals at first contact.

4.2.3 Approach Types

4.2.3.1 ILS
4.2.3.2 RNP

4.2.4 On Ground

After vacating, please keep moving until the aircraft is completely clear of the runway stop bars on exiting.

4.2.5 Local Procedures

4.2.5.1 Reduced Runway Separation Minima

Unless otherwise advised by ATC, vacate the runway via a Rapid Exit Taxiway.

ATC will advise aircraft on final approach of the expected runway exit point. Pilots shall ATC as soon as practicable if unable to comply.

OMDB AD 2.5 Special Aircraft

5.1 Code F Aircraft

5.1.1 Pushback Restrictions

5.1.1.1 Pushback onto taxilane J and taxilane U:

Code F aircraft will pushback onto taxilane J and code E aircraft will pushback onto taxilane U. This is due to taxilane compatibility.
Due to the proximity of taxilane J and taxilane U, pilots must adehre to centerline at all times and must confirm aircraft aligned on centerline prior to reporting pushback complete.

5.2 Airbus A380-800

Due to the unique charasteristics of the Airbus A380-800, this aircraft requires special procedures. Please study the A380-800 or Code F specific charts as well.

5.2.1 Parking Positions

On Dubai International Airport, the Airbus A380-800 is allowed on all A and D stands.
Besides this, the Airbus A380-800 is allowed on several other stands. These are listed below:
